About Us

We’re here for all of it.

Birthbabe is a modern motherhood media platform covering maternal health, identity and lifestyle.

What we believe

We believe every frontline healthcare professional should be able to recognise the symptoms of perinatal mental health conditions. We believe Black and Brown women should not be more likely to die giving birth. We believe matrescence should be talked about as openly as puberty. We believe suicide should not be the leading cause of maternal death in the UK. We believe the phrase “bounce back” belongs in the bin.

We believe it’s okay to say you hated how your birth went. It’s okay to want to look good in your jeans whilst also trying to figure out wake windows. It’s okay to be completely in love with your baby and find motherhood genuinely hard at the same time – without having to add “but I love my kid” as a disclaimer, because of course you do.

We believe mothers matter. Not solely as caregivers, but as whole people with identities and bodies and mental health and wardrobes and opinions and ambitions that exist before, during and after having children.

We believe early motherhood can be fun. Exciting. A genuine chance to learn more about yourself as you figure it all out. And we think the sisterhood of motherhood – the community of women who have been through it and want to support the ones going through it now – is one of the most powerful things there is.

We’re also here for dads and non-birthing parents. For the wider support systems that make or break those early months. For the people trying to conceive who need somewhere to talk about it without it being A Whole Thing. For every person navigating the journey into parenthood in whatever form that takes.

All of it. Without judgement. Without caveats.

Where we started

When our founder Cat had her first baby, she spent months searching for information that was honest, accurate and written for real women rather than a textbook. What she found was either overly clinical and overwhelming or picture-perfect and completely unrealistic. Nothing covered what actually mattered – the physical realities of postpartum recovery, the mental health shifts nobody warns you about, the system failures that affect women every single day, or what to wear when your body has changed and you still want to feel like yourself.

So she built the place she wished had existed. What started as a resource became a platform. And that platform became Birthbabe – modern motherhood media covering maternal health, identity and lifestyle through honest, culturally relevant storytelling.

What we cover

Pregnancy. The physical realities, the symptoms nobody prepares you for, and what you actually need versus what you’re told you need.

Birth. Preparation, what really happens during labour, your rights, and recovery in all its forms.

Postpartum and feeding. The fourth trimester, breastfeeding, pumping, bottle feeding, and everything nobody warned you about.

Maternal mental health. The full picture, from anxiety and depression to postpartum psychosis, covered seriously and without stigma.

Identity and lifestyle. What happens to you as a person when you become a mother. Your relationships, how you dress, how you feel, how you find yourself again, your ambitions, your career, and why that matters.

Advocacy. The NHS, the system, the funding, the failures. We cover what’s happening in UK maternity care because women deserve to know and because silence has consequences.

Trying to conceive. Because the journey into parenthood starts long before the birth, and the people on it deserve a place to talk about it too.

Who we are

Cat founded Birthbabe after a career in healthcare regulation and international law. Working in healthcare regulation means understanding both sides of the same coin. The pressures on the clinical side and the fears on the patient side. The gap between what the system intends and what women actually experience. That gap is exactly what Birthbabe exists to close.

That background also means accuracy, research and clear information are built into everything we publish. We can’t promise to always get it right. If we get things wrong, tell us. We’re listening and we’ll always strive to make things better. We started in the UK but the questions women ask at 3am are the same everywhere. Motherhood doesn’t have borders and neither does this community.

What makes us different

We’re not just a parenting blog or a product review site. We cover those things because they matter – a genuinely good breast pump can save your sanity, a well-researched hospital bag list makes real life easier, and knowing how to dress your bump to feel good on a Tuesday matters just as much as anything else.

But we’re also here for the harder conversations. We think you should know about rising induction rates. About maternity staffing levels and what they mean for your care. About how to actually recover after a C-section or perineal tear. About the mental health shifts that nobody prepares you for and the system failures that affect women every single day.

The practical and the political. The breast pump and the broken system. The bump outfit and the maternity inquiry. All of it matters. All of it is part of the same story. We’re here for the whole journey. And we’re not going anywhere.
